In
2002, during the month of February the Playgrounds and Toys were
exhibited at the Museo Cantonale
d'Arte in Lugano. In November, a selection of models
by six Indian artists and designers were presented in New
Delhi with the inauguration of a full-scale, fully-functional
playground.
In
December 5th the exhibition was presented in the Italian
Cultural Institute in London,39 Belgrave sq.
In
2002, Playgrounds &Toys entered its second phase, involving
the construction of playgrounds and toys in real scale for different
schools:
Greece
- In January 2002, in collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Culture,
the playground of the Brazilian artist, Fabiana de Barros was built
for a gypsy camp near Athens.

India
- In November 2002, Art for The World inaugurated at the Deepalaya
School in Kalkaji, New Delhi, India the playgrounds of the artists
Fabrice Gygi, Joseph Kosuth and Edgard Soares.

Simultaneously,
Playgrounds & Toys were enriched with six models by artists
and designers based in New Delhi: Samit Das, Subodh Gupta, Bharti
Kher, Sheila Makhijani, Rajeev Sethi and Vivan Sundaram. These new
models for playgrounds and toys were also presented at the opening
at the Deepalaya School on the morning of November 12th.
Art
for The World has chosen Deepalaya School for the site of the first
construction of a playground in India. Deepalaya is an NGO which
builds schools in North India specifically for the free education
of children from the neighbouring slum communities. Their school
in Kalkaji Extension, opened in 2000, has approximately 700 students
presently attending.
