Michael Galasso's performance at the Palazzo Mocenigo in Venice featured a new work, "Venezia", created especially for ART for The World. The concert was divided into three parts: "Venezia", "Solo", and "L'altro sogna". "Venezia" was inspired by Galasso's participation in Méditations in Marrakesh and by his collaboration with Agostino Bicocchi on tablas. Part Indian, part Persian, part Western classical, "Venezia" continued Michael Galasso's search to create a multi-cultural music. "Solo" is a new work created in 1997 which features violin works created over more than twenty years. From "Rope Dance Translations" (Scene IX) - 1973, to "Sogna Medioevale"- 1997, "Solo" takes the listener on a journey in time and space. "L'altro Sogno", featuring David Bellugi on the flauto dolce basso and Agostino Bicocchi on tablas, was used as an installation for Méditations. The version performed in Venice, with violin and tablas, is one of four different versions of the work. |
